Keating can sometimes eliminate painful bunions or hammertoe conditions without surgery. His years of surgical experience and skill lead to excellent outcomes for his patients.
What is a bunion?
It is a common condition characterized by an enlargement of the bone and tissue around the joint of the big toe that causes a noticeable bump on the inside of the forefoot. The area may become red and swollen, making shoes and walking very uncomfortable. A bunion can cause:
- Skin irritation
It can also lead to corns, calluses or even arthritis. Dr. Keating has the expertise to alleviate your pain with custom orthotics and other nonsurgical options. He only resorts to bunion surgery when other options have not provided the desired relief.
What is a hammertoe?
This “buckling” of the toe(s) into a claw shape is typically caused by an imbalance in the tendon or joints. Hammertoes can become more rigid over time and lead to corns and calluses, which make it difficult to wear shoes. When conservative treatments do not provide relief, Dr. Keating can realign the toe(s) and restore your feet to normal function.
Sometimes surgery is the only way to resolve bunion and hammertoe problems. Dr. Keating is highly experienced in corrective hammertoe and bunion surgery. He uses the latest surgical techniques to gently correct your condition and get you back on your feet.
